Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are customized restorations made of a ceramic material very similar to teeth. These thin veneers are placed on the surface of a tooth to provide a cosmetic solution for a number of different problems including:
- Unevenly aligned teeth
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Worn tooth enamel
- Unevenly spaced teeth
Dental veneers are considered a cosmetic dental procedure because they can create beautiful even white teeth perfectly shaped for a gorgeous bright smile. Today’s porcelain veneers offer a much more natural appearance than veneers in the past ever did (View Before and After photos). It doesn’t really matter what the cause of unattractive teeth are, with dental veneers most or perhaps all of them can be solved with porcelain veneers. Your dentist at Fairwood Aesthetic & Implant Dentistry in Renton is equipped to provide you with the latest in custom-made porcelain veneers, giving you the smile you’ve always dreamed about. Bonding
Bonding is a procedure normally used to repair imperfections and minor chips on front teeth. It’s also commonly used to fill in the gaps between teeth. For larger cracks and crooked or misaligned teeth, porcelain veneers are usually used. When bonding is applied the material used is what dentists use for white or composite fillings. The bonding material can be matched to the color of your teeth and shaped to correct whatever the problem is. This procedure can usually be completed in one appointment, and anesthesia is rarely needed.
Teeth Whitening
There are many options for whitening your teeth available on the market today, aside from your dental office. There are over-the-counter whitening strips, toothpastes with whitening ingredients as well as bleaching systems. Any of these may work to give you a beautiful white smile, but this isn’t going to happen anywhere near as fast as it would if you had your teeth whitened professionally.
White Composite Fillings
Do you feel self-conscious about your black fillings? Do you cover your mouth when you laugh so no one notices them? There is no reason to continue living this way when you can have natural looking white fillings instead. For the past few years composites have been made with high-tech plastic material very closely matching natural teeth. You can have your ugly black fillings replaced with composite fillings that match the color of your natural teeth. A single “Direct Composite” filling can be done in just one visit to your dentist at Fairwood Aesthetic & Implant Dentistry. Composite fillings are perfect for small restorations.
Dentures
Losing a tooth or teeth can adversely affect your self-confidence, the way you chew food and your general health. Dentures are the most common devices used to replace missing teeth. Depending on how many teeth are missing, a partial or complete denture would be in order. A partial denture can keep existing teeth from moving after a tooth loss. There are many different options for dentures these days and they can totally transform a smile.
Acrylic resins are usually used in creating dentures. There have been many advances made in cosmetic dentistry in recent years. There are many different materials being used so your dentist will discuss all appropriate options with you.
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are another option for replacing missing teeth. When someone has one or more missing teeth it can affect their bite, cause surrounding teeth to shift, change their smile, cause symptoms of TMJ and even speech impediments. If this goes on over a period of time the wear and tear on your remaining teeth can cause health problems. There are many different kinds of bridges available to remedy this problem.
Your Renton dentist will most likely need to reshape your surrounding teeth in order to fit your bridge. Once that’s done a crown is placed over the reshaped teeth, which will then be connected to an artificial tooth. To replace front teeth a resin-bonded bridge us normally used. This can only be done if the surrounding gums and teeth are strong and healthy without a lot of fillings. A resin-bonded bridge doesn’t require a lot of preparation for the adjacent teeth.
Your dentist at Fairwood Aesthetic & Implant Dentistry can create a dental bridge for you, which will improve your confidence as it transforms your smile.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are used to replace a lost tooth or teeth. When people lose a tooth due to injury or disease they are often embarrassed about their appearance. Sometimes their speech or smile is adversely affected. It the tooth loss causes an irregular bite this can lead to other problems, even malnutrition. Tooth loss may also be caused by excessive wear and tear, gum disease or congenital defects. Whatever the cause of your tooth loss, you can discuss with your Renton dentist whether or not a dental implant would be a good option for you.

Periodontal or Gum Disease
People today who lose their teeth do so for the most part because of periodontal or gum disease. Estimates are that 80% of adults these days have some degree of gum disease, which can range from mild gingivitis to the advanced stages of periodontal disease. Gum disease can exist without the person even realizing it because it’s generally not painful and you can’t easily see it. This is why they call it “the silent killer of teeth”, although it can lead to a lot more than that.
Symptoms of gum disease:
- Swollen, puffy and/or red gums
- Chronic bad breath
- Gums bleed while brushing or flossing
- Pus oozes from your gums
- Loose teeth
If you have any of these symptoms call Fairwood Aesthetic & Implant DentistryinRentonto schedule an appointment with our dentist.
Flossing is Vital
We hate to be alarmists but flossing your teeth on a regular basis can actually save your life! The results of recent medical research provide some shocking facts about gum disease. Apparently, strokes, heart attacks, cancer and even premature births may be more associated with chronic ongoing inflammation in the body than with other causes.
The truth is that GUM DISEASE is the most common source of chronic ongoing inflammation in the body. The recently suspected association between gum disease, strokes and heart disease is continuing to be studied, but it looks like healthy gums can actually lead to a healthy heart! Other medical studies have associated gum disease with premature or low birth weight babies. Cancer, specifically pancreatic cancer, also seems to be related to chronic inflammation caused by periodontal disease.
Endodontic Treatments
An endodontic treatment is done on the inside of the tooth when it becomes inflamed or infected. This treatment is more commonly referred to as a root canal and the procedure is done to save the tooth. There have been major advancements in endodontics in recent years. Teeth that would have had to be pulled just a few years ago can now be rescued. If treating the infection on the inside of the tooth doesn’t work the patient can undergo endodontic surgery to save their tooth. There is a hallow space inside teeth where the pulp chamber lies. The pulp’s main purpose is to maintain the health of the tooth. Root canals inside the tooth lead up to the pulp chamber and in the center is where the nerve tissue runs. Over the years myths have developed as to how painful and dangerous having a root canal is, but these have been extremely exaggerated. The truth is having a root canal is no more painful than getting a filling.
Crowns
Crowns are meant to protect the part of the tooth that is seen above the gum line. They are placed there to strengthen the tooth or to enhance its appearance or size. They are also used to secure a bridge or dental implant. There are a quite few different kinds of crowns available, each serving a specific purpose. OurRentondentist can advise you on whether or not you will need a crown depending on the type of treatment you are receiving. Often a temporary crown is put in place until the permanent crown is made. Crowns are made of different substances such as porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, metal or resin.
Treatment for TMJ
The main joint in the jaw is the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and it can develop a disorder or dysfunction, which can be very painful. The pain can affect the entire jaw, face and head. In severe cases the pain can spread to the neck and shoulders as well. Although TMJ is the name of this particular joint, but the acronym often refers to the painful disorder or syndrome. A more appropriate term would be temporomandibular disorder (TMD), but the two terms seem to be interchangeable. This painful joint disorder is certainly uncomfortable, but it also causes the teeth to erode slowly.
Extractions
When a tooth cannot be saved or the patient is at risk for developing an infection in surrounding teeth an extraction may be recommended by our Renton dentist. A tooth with a severe crack may need to be extracted. There are other situations that make it totally impossible to save a tooth and therefore the dentist will be forced to extract it. For most people this would be a traumatic experience, however yourRentonorFairwood Aesthetic & Implant Dentistry dentist will discuss all your options with you so that you can decide which solution would be best for you under the circumstances.
Care for Canker Sores
Canker sores occur in the mouth and can be very painful. They are normally red, but they can also be white. They show up on the gums, inside of the cheek and/or under the tongue. These are not fever blisters, which show up on the outside of the lips and/or in the corners of the mouth. Anyone can get a fever blister since they can be caused by a number of different things including:
- Poor nutrition
- Stress
- Injury to the mouth
- Food allergies
- Menstrual periods
Our dentist inRentoncan advise you on the best treatment for relieving the pain.
Dental Sealants
A dental sealant is a very thin invisible plastic coating applied on the grooves on the surface of the back teeth where chewing occurs. This sealant protects them from decay. Some teeth have very deep crevices and grooves, which tend to collect germs and food particles unless they’ve been covered with a sealant. Most kids and teenagers who get cavities at an early age get them because of these food particles sticking to the surface in areas that are hard to clean.
When our dentist in Huntington Beach applies the dental sealant it takes very little time, is easy and pain free. First the tooth is thoroughly cleaned then a gel is applied on the chewing surface of the tooth for just a few seconds. The tooth is now washed and dried before the sealant is simply painted on the surface of the tooth. To help the sealant to harden a light is shined on it. The result is a shield on the tooth that protects it.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride is a natural mineral existing in food and water. Fluoride treatments help in the prevention of tooth decay as well as protecting the surface enamel of the teeth. Our dentist offers fluoride treatments as part of providing excellent dental care for our patients. The fluoride treatments carried out in our dental office in Huntington Beach contain a higher concentration of fluoride to make it more effective in fighting decay and in strengthening the enamel.

Oral Cancer Screening
Early detection is the best way to combat any form of cancer and oral cancer is no different. Diagnosing oral cancer through regular screenings is key to preventing and effectively treating the condition. Our goal is to find oral, neck and head cancers as soon as possible when patients come in with symptoms of bleeding, pain, dysphagia or otalgia. Our dentist can carefully examine the mouth and neck, which usually only takes a few minutes. This short exam is critical to the prevention, treatment and cure of early stage oral cancer.
